marketing – Should a game company use a TLD outside of the .com space?

As an indie developer who has shipped games in the past, I’ve always had trouble with the marketing aspect of the business. In the last decade, many companies have expanded beyond the .com TLD and now we commonly see .io and .dev among other popular choices in the mainstream web.

Suppose that you have a great company name/game name, but is taken. Should an indie developer or upcoming company choose an alternate domain ending such as .game, .games, .dev, .io or other suitable TLD?

— Or —

Is it better to tag game or some other clever ending to the domain itself and keep .com?
